Celebrating Women's Stories - Wed 10th March 2010

We had a great day on Wednesday 10th March 2010 - Celebrating Women's Stories -  with our guest speaker Letitia Fitzpatrick.

Letitia has been a journalist and presenter for 26 years - with UTV, the BBC and the Irish News, covering the Troubles from 1983 through the peace process to the present day.  She also works as a motivational speaker, talking about:-

  • the changing Northern Ireland, famous and inspirational people, coping with stress in a pressurised profession
  • juggling work and motherhood, recovering from depression, being a carer for a husband with a terminal illness
  • coping with bereavement, changing career and direction
  • keeping fresh, approaching 50

After her moving speach, the women were divided into three groups for the workshops

  1. What Inspires You?
  2. Memorable photographs  - strory telling using photographs
  3. Common Experiences - Births, Marriages & death (or hatches, matches & despatches!)

After much discussion at these Workshops, the ladies were invited to record their stories on a card.  A beech tree was donated by Gerard Henry and we all made our way to the railway park where we planted the tree with the help of Councillor Dessie Donnelly and Councillor Frances Burton.

We returned to the Centre for some well-earned refreshments.

Thanks to all the ladies who took part and made this a memorable occaision.  A dvd was recorded on the day and will be posted on the website when available.
